Mom Shaming- It Needs To Stop!

I took my children to a doctors appointment the other day; the focus being on their sensitive skin… well at least part of it.

The doctor was focused on their skin. I was focused on their skin. My kiddos were focused on their skin.

The nurse however…

her focused seemed to be how many kiddos I had, and that I have another on the way.

“Oh my, I’m just tired watching them.”

“You guys aren’t done having kids yet?”

“I don’t know how you do it.”

“Phewwww…” *stares in disbelief*

“Please tell me this is your last one.”

“4 is enough. You guys need to let this be it.”

I’m sure there were more obnoxious comments… too many to remember though.

I’ll never understand why people feel the need to discourage and shame others because they have big families. What works for someone else, may not work for you. I happen to absolutely love and adore being a mother; hands down, it is one of my greatest callings, accomplishments and testimonies to date.

I shouldn’t have to defend (which I didn’t), the number of children I’ve been blessed to birth, blessed to raise, and share life with. GOD knew what He was doing when He created our family unit, and if our family continues to grow, I consider it a blessing! That’s decision to be made between GOD, my husband and myself… no one else.

I know plenty of women who have struggled with infertility, miscarriages, and would love to be overwhelmed from motherhood, rather than overwhelmed from not having the experience of carrying life, and bringing life into this world.

In no way shape or form do I view motherhood, my children or my responsibility to them as a burden; no one else should either.

Now, had I replied to the nurse with a snarky remark, it would have been considered “rude.” But, I’m pretty confident she didn’t feel out of line sharing her opinions & projecting her disapproval of the number of children I have.

I’m not the first mother of 4 children and I won’t be the last. Many women have 4 + children and blow my mind at how well they keep it all together. It’s amazing. I admire their strength and patience, and learn so much from them. Mother-HOOD is a special place for moms to connect… support, encourage and uplift one another. On the days I need a little help, I can definitely call on one of my mom girlfriends for a little pep talk and prayer.

Let’s focus on being more encouraging and loving! Let’s celebrate our differences and kick the mom shaming out the back door. Being a mother is challenging enough as it is without negativity stemming from other women and moms.

I’m excited for our family to be growing! Baby #4 will be here before we know it, and we are all counting down! Let the beautiful chaos continue!
