Mike Daniels Shop With A Jock

The holiday season is here & one of my favorite times of the year. I love that we get to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and are encouraged to spread holiday cheer. For me, that doesn’t just mean sprinkling kindness everywhere like it’s glitter, although I live by that… but, it means to be a servant. Servanthood is vital, and the Bible tells us we not only should serve one another, but that we should serve one another humbly in love. (Galatians 5:3).

My husband and I do not take this lightly. We understand that we have a calling and a responsibility to help others, build up our community, mentor, inspire and encourage our youth, and to disciple. A few days ago, we had the opportunity to do just that when we hosted Mike’s Shop With A Jock, where we took 50 kids from the Boys & Girls Club on a shopping spree to Wal-Mart and fed them an awesome meal, courtesy of Longhorn Steakhouse prior to. The kiddos in attendance received a t-shirt, $100 gift card and prayerfully an experience that will stick with them for a lifetime.

The experience is what was most important to us. Sure it’s awesome to be able to buy gifts, but mentoring, leadership, and love are truly what it’s all about. Being able to love on people is such an amazing thing, and you never know how you can love someone back to life.

We all have influence and how we choose to use it matters. We can either help heal or help hurt. It’s a choice. And, what a blessing it was to have some of Mike’s fellow teammates join us in using their influence in a positive way. We were joined by HaHa Clinton-Dix & his Better Half, Bria Moody, Izaah Lunsford & Josh Walker who are not only playmakers on the field, but in our community. They were so excited to be there and the kids were eager to meet them as well! It was such a treat for the kiddos to spend time with some of their favorite Packers (local heroes)… shopping, laughing, taking selfies and just enjoying their company.

Again, how we use our influence is a choice. We will continue to help heal, encourage, and inspire others. Love is the greatest commandment, and we will keep spreading it, along with the message of hope.
