Pitiful To Powerful: Know Who You Are

August 20th, 2018

Have you ever reflected someone else’s thoughts of you who are on to yourself? I’m not talking about the pretty ones either… but the hurtful defining words people have used to label you, hurt you, discourage you, belittle you? If you haven’t, congratulations! You’re on of the lucky few of us who have been able to escape this.

And,

if you have- you’re not alone!

However,

I am here to remind you to STOP letting people define you and stop creating this false identify of yourself based off what others think. This isn’t always easy… especially when you’re hearing these negative words often. Trust me, I know. I’ve dealt with my fair share of this and at times still do.

“The problem with labels is, the more we wear them, the more we believe them.”

‪”You aren’t guaranteed acceptance by changing who you are to please others. Love yourself. Embrace your uniqueness. ”

  • What does GOD say about you?
  • Who do you believe that you are ?
  • How are you defining yourself? And why?

These are all things to think about. Negative self talk & reflection is also a very real thing. If you’re using negative, low character words to define yourself, then healing is definitely necessary. (I’ve been in that boat also- constantly working at this).

Honestly, it’s so easy to fall into these negative cycles where you’re either tearing yourself down, or “letting,” others do it for you. A bad day suddenly turns into a bad life, a little weight gain & now you’re completely insecure, a stone thrown at you from someone (clearly hurting to inflict pain/damage with words), and you’re second guessing your self worth and existence. But why???

Words are powerful! “Death and life are in the powder of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” -Proverbs 18:21 ESV

We have the opportunity…. to literally speak LIFE into ourselves, over our situations, into others, over their situations …. How. Awesome. Is. That??? We DO NOT have to accept the “death,” others try to speak over us, and we can counteract our own negative “death,” speech by speaking LIFE: things that are good, positive, healing, loving, joyous, kind, encouraging, inspiring, beautiful, and true. Truth is the most valuable in GOD’s economy!

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I cannot tell you how I’ve struggled with all of this- finding myself in Christ and replacing things I’ve reflected on myself as well as things I’ve let others reflect on me (and believed it ), with who and what GOD says I am.

This is a process.

Imagine every negative, hurtful, mean, unkind, LIE/label (word stones), comparing, jealous, evil word you’ve thought or accepted sticking to your body every time they were released into the atmosphere. We all know once words are released, they cannot be retracted.

You may start out with one or two words stuck to your body/mind … wearing them as if they are some label of honor. Before you know it, you are a walking billboard for: low self esteem, depression, anxiety, not feeling like you’re enough, struggling with comparison, feeling unloved, hating yourself, miserable, negativity & honestly… a lost soul. You’ve become burdened with sadness. You’re carrying toxic cargo. The hurt you’ve been carrying is showing up in your physical body: weight gain or loss, bags under your eyes from lack of sleep or constantly crying, literally feeling sick or becoming ill because of all the “death,” you have been carrying. The hurt your carrying is showing up in your relationships: they’re all suffering… lack of communication, constant arguing, exchange of meaningless, lifeless conversation, distancing yourself from people you love or who love you because of the words you feel define you etc.

The negative effects are countless. As it spirals out of control, you lose control. You lose yourself. You lose your power.

Snap out of it! It’s time to fix your crown!!!! It’s time to regain your power!

You are royalty! You are pure gold! You’re are a child of the most high GOD, an heir to His kingdom, and He called you good! You were created in His image, for His glory! You are more than enough! You are valued and validated in Christ Jesus!!!

I don’t know about you, but making the decision to go from pitiful to powerful sounds like the move!!!!! And when you make the change, you’ll never look back at that powerless person you allowed yourself to become, except as a reference of how far GOD has brought you, to share your testimony, and as a reminder the world needs your light to shine through the darkness- the lies we believe.

My prayer for all of us on today is that we never lose sight of who GOD says that we are, that we always rest in our fathers arm to protect our hearts and minds from the hurtful words being thrown at us, and the ones we’ve spoken over ourselves. If we change our hearts, we change our speech. We must pray for others in this area also, because the fruit we bare is directly correlated to the words we speak… what overflows from our hearts. Only GOD can facilitate this change; through the power of prayer & actively seeking GOD… His word, His wisdom, His truth… we can align ourselves in Him and realize we are His children whom he loves.

I want to leave you with some scripture to mediate on, and pray over your lives. Praying scripture is one of the best way to pray… speaking & claiming His promises out loud because there is power in the tongue, and speaking GOD’s word is speaking Life!!

Be blessed! Choose today to start healing! Find your way back to loving yourself! Take a look in the mirror and speak goodness all over yourself!!! You are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Xoxo,

Heaven

P.S. forgive yourself or anyone else who has hurt you. This is a major key to healing and loving yourself. Get better, not bitter.

Psalm 19:14 NLT

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Luke 6:45 ESV

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Matthew 12:33 NIV

Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

Psalm 19:14 NLT

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
