Forget Me Not Fall Fashion Show

Walking in The Fall Forget Me Not Fashion Show the last 5 years has been amazing. I love helping raise funds & awareness for Alzheimer’s! “This years show was a great success; we raised over $20,000 to help continue providing education, training and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.

Thank you so much everyone who came out and donated to this cause. $7500 was donated directly to the Greater Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, and the balance of funds will stay local to train those caring for loved ones with dementia at home, educate First Responders and businesses, as well as help our communities become more “dementia friendly.” ” // I really look forward to walking in this fashion show. It is seriously so much fun… the mission, the people, the models, the energy, the amazing food, and of course great music. DJ Terryoke has all the good tunes and his heart to serve in the community is so special. He keeps the energy upbeat, and that really makes a big impact on the atmosphere; it’s always lively, and fun!

While obtaining my masters degree, I had the privilege to work in home health care for awhile. A lot of the familiar faces I grew to love were individuals who were dealing with dementia. One of my favorite and most special relationships was with a small framed Austrian man by the name of Hans. He was seriously so sweet… Always in good spirits, and always trying to play jokes on me. We would go out for lunch and have pizza, or cook meals in the kitchen… followed by a piece of chocolate (his favorite), workout on the bike, go out to his farm and feed his horses and cattle, take walks, and get through his daily activities such as bathing etc. Over time, the dementia he struggled withworsened. He would wander off onto the farm late at night, forget names and faces etc. It was pretty hard to watch. I’m thankful in the time I spent with him, he never forgot who I was. If ever I was lounging doing homework or relaxing, he would come and throw a blanket over me, pat my head and walk away. Eventually, he passed away. I have some really fun memories with him though, & grew close with his family (children & grandchildren), who I still keep in contact with. //

Hans is one of the reasons it means a lot to me to be part of such a great event that helps those in my community. // In one of the recent years, my husband walked in the fashion show with me, and although he wasn’t able to be in it this year, he always makes it a point to donate items for the live and silent auction’s, send over videos to encourage people to donate, and find a way to be involved.

Sending a big thank you to my girls for joining the fun this year: Dory Johnson, Liz Simon & Dhorti Pena- I really appreciate you ladies!

Thank you Danielle Daebler & Cara Peterson for always orchestrating such an amazing fundraiser & taking good care of all of us! You both have amazing hearts, beautiful character, and it’s obvious that your passion to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s runs deep. Thank you both so much for all that you do in our community! Love you gals! 💜 #endalz
